Hi! I’m Ryan Chen.
I am a designer, illustrator, and muralist based in Seattle, WA.
My work explores themes of identity, connection, and belonging, drawing from my lived experience as an Asian American navigating questions of otherness and home, and is rooted in depicting the beauty of everyday life.
I’m especially interested in the subtle dynamics of human interaction—whether conveyed through a single figure, an exchange between two individuals, or a broader scene depicting a community. These subjects allow me to explore how community, memory, and emotion shape our sense of place.
My formal training in design has helped shape my attention to composition and form, while mural work has taught me the power of scale and public art’s potential to foster dialogue. My art has been featured in exhibitions across Seattle and Dallas, and I’ve completed several public murals that reflect the communities they inhabit.
Ultimately, my goal is to create work that invites reflection, sparks curiosity, fosters empathy, and inspires others to embrace their own stories and imaginations.
